The Child Nutrition department is committed to providing healthy school meals to the students of the Simi Valley Unified School District in order to support student academic success and promote healthful eating habits that lead to lifelong positive nutrition practices. More than 10,000 student meals are served each school day.

We strive to meet or exceed the meal standards recommended by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Our menus include fresh fruit, vegetables, whole-grain rich products, fat-free and low-fat milk, lower levels of sodium, saturated fat and zero trans fat in our meals.

Free, reduced and fully paid meals are served using an automated accounting system that protects the privacy of all students.

Eat Learn Play

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to think about keeping children healthy while school is out. The Simi Valley Unified School District is proud to announce the free summer lunch program for any youth, 18 years old and younger. The lunches are available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, from June 10th through July 24th (except on June 19th & July 4th). Meals will be served at Rancho Simi Community Park, 1765 Royal Avenue, in Simi Valley. The goal is to get meals into the community to children who may have summer food insecurity and provide opportunities to learn and stay active in the summer months.

The program, entitled “Eat, Learn, Play!” reflects the ongoing partnership between the School District, Simi Valley Public Library, and Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.  Once again, each organization will provide services or programs on specific days, during and after the time children eat. The lunches and the programs are free for children and teens.

This is a federal program run by the California Department of Education. All local children are eligible, regardless of income level or school they attend. In order for the District to continue to qualify for this program, the meals must be eaten at the park and be eaten by children only.

Each day of the week has a different menu which is available at www.simivalleyusd.org. Information regarding the program is sent out to the public via school sites, flyers, posters, and an all-call to parents in the district. These materials will be available on SVUSD, Library, and RSPRD websites. Complimentary copies will also be available at Rancho Simi Park, for the duration of the program.

The Simi Valley Unified School District serves the city of Simi Valley and the unincorporated Ventura County areas adjacent to the city's borders. It is comprised of 18 elementary schools, three middle and four high schools, Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute, Justin Early Learners Academy and a homeschool/independent study program for kindergarten through 12th grade. www.simivalleyusd.org 805-306-4500

Rancho Simi Recreation and Parks District’s mission is to enrich life in our community by striving to offer residents the finest park system in the State of California by providing parks that are maintained at the highest level possible, parks that are planned and developed through an innovative and creative thought process, and recreational programs and activities that promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle for the entire family. Serving the communities of Simi Valley and Oak Park, the Park District has established 50 parks and preserved over 5,600 acres of open space that is now used for hiking, biking, horseback riding and wildlife preservation. The Park District also provides two equestrian centers, a swimming pool, two golf courses, and numerous sports and other recreation amenities. www.rsrpd.org 805-584-4400

The Simi Valley Public Library relies on three great resources: staff and volunteers, collections, and physical and virtual spaces. It is proud to be a recognized force in the community for engaging the mind, expanding opportunities and elevating the quality of life. The Simi Valley Public Library offers its patrons of all ages the opportunity for lifelong learning through 28 public access computers, free Wi-Fi, access to a collection of over 2 million items from over 40 libraries in southern California, many quiet areas (inside and outside the building), an informative webpage, free public events, and community room available for rent. The Library is open seven days a week.  www.SimiValleyLibrary.org  805-526-1735.
