One breakfast and lunch per day will be available to all SVUSD students at no charge for the 2023-2024 school year through the California Universal Meal Program. Even if your child qualified for reduced-price meals or did not qualify for free or reduced through the National School Lunch Program program, your student can still get a free breakfast and lunch daily. At no point will your child be asked to pay for their meal unless they have already received a free one for the day and are returning for seconds.

Single cartons of milk and bottles of water are sold at our Elementary Schools, and a variety of a-la-carte items are also offered daily during breakfast and lunch at our Secondary Schools. These items are not included in the free meals for 2023-2024. Any student who wishes to purchase a-la-carte items must either bring money to purchase the items, or have money in their lunch account. No student will be charged into the negative for a-la-carte items or second meals.

My child's application was approved last year, do I need to fill out a new one this year?

Yes, if you want to participate in the meal program for the 2023-2024 school year. Applications are valid for one school year at a time and for the first 30 school days of the following school year.

The 2022-2023 eligibility carry-over period ends September 27, 2023, and unless the household is notified that their children are directly certified for the 2023-2024 school year, or unless the household submits a 2023-2024 application that is approved, a new application must be submitted if a household wishes to participate.

It may take up to (10) business days to process your 2023-2024 application. You will be notified by letter when your application has been approved or denied.

*Application for the federal National School Lunch Program for Free or Reduced Price Lunches is not required to qualify for the California Universal Meal Program. If you do not wish to disclose income information or elect not to fill out an application for any reason, your child can still eat free breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria daily. We do respectfully encourage all families to complete the form as there are other family benefits to which you might qualify.*

How can I see what my student has been buying for lunch?

SVUSD uses www.myschoolbucks.com for parents to monitor their student's cafeteria purchases and account balance. Even if you do not wish to make payments through mySchoolBucks, the account is free and can be utilized to track your child's account. Payments will show as "pending" until they post to the student's account at their school. Please allow 24 hours for payment to be added to account. If you have any questions, email support@myschoolbucks.com or call (855) 832-5226.
