District-Issued Laptops Information *
The Simi Valley Unified School District is proud to offer all of our students the opportunity to check out a state-of-the-art laptop to aid in learning. We are committed to allowing students to use the laptop in school and at home so that learning can continue beyond the school day. Because these laptops are expected to last for several years, we need to ensure the devices remain functional. As an option, if you as a parent are concerned that your child may accidentally lose or damage the laptop you may choose to purchase a device protection plan. This plan is completely optional.
We understand that accidents happen which is why we are offering an optional Protection Plan for district issued laptops through the company, School Device Coverage. This coverage is less than $5.50 per month (10 payments) or one payment of $55 per school year, per device. The payment plan is scheduled through PayPal. All payments are made directly to School Device Coverage.
The coverage includes replacement or repair in the event of theft, loss, or accidental damage of an insured district-issued device or the charger. The protection plan will NOT cover intentional damages, in which case the student and parent/guardian can be responsible for the full replacement or the cost of repairs, up to the value of the district-issued device.
The deadline for current students to enroll in this optional Protection Plan for district issued devices is September 20, 2023.

The District-Issued Device Protection Plan will be effective from the date the District-Issued Device Protection Plan application AND payment are received by School Device Coverage. The protection plan expires August 9, 2024, or the student’s graduation/exit from the Simi Valley Unified School District, whichever comes first.
If your child’s device is accidentally damaged, lost, or stolen then your child will be issued a replacement device at their school site. Any damaged device will be sent to the district office for review. If coverage was purchased, district office personnel will file a claim on your behalf. We will also update your coverage plan to the replacement device. If coverage was not purchased, Simi Valley Schools will work with families to ensure students continue to have access to a learning device.
A parent/guardian must file a police report within five days if the laptop is stolen. The police report can be filed online at https://www.simivalley.org/departments/police-department/file-an-online-report by clicking “File an online report” at the bottom of the page. You would select theft as the incident type.
